Create A Horror Movie Poster

Whenever I watch a movie I always look at the cover and try to figure out how it was made, there are many amazing movie covers and posters which are great sources of inspiration. I got the idea for this poster when I accidentally put on a channel that wasn’t working which reminded me of The Ring, so I went into photoshop and came up with this.

This is my first tutorial so bear with me, if something is unclear leave a comment and I will try to make it clear.

Here’s what you will need:

Lets Begin…
  1. Start with your tv image and lower the lighting around the tv if neccessary
  2. Remove the background, only keep the door and your hand, duplicate this layer and rename it (make sure this layer is under the original) go to layer styles and add a black overlay to this layer and then add a gaussian blur of 15%.
  3. Add the texture over all the layers and set blending mode to hard light, use a layer mask and remove the texture so that it is only over the door make sure its not covering the arm and the door handle.
  4. Add the face, set the blending mode and lower the opacity so that it blends with the TV, add layer mask and use a soft brush to remove everything but the face.
  5. Use the “foreground to transparent” setting with the Gradient tool with black as the foreground and shade around the edges of the canvas
  6. Add text of your choice, I used a font called Calibri, make sure the text color is a gray or (#827f7f) and go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise set the amount around 100%, make sure distribution is set to uniform
  7. For the credit block I used the font that is commonly used for this called Univers LT 49 LightUltraCn, the settings I used are on the image below
  8. Last, Add a layer and fill it with black set the blending mode to hue. You should get a similar result to the one below!
